New Design Trends to look forward to in 2022 – Part 1

Can you believe that 2021 is almost over?  With the new year around the corner, new interior design trends are emerging and I honestly cannot wait!

As much as we all wish 2020 was only a bad dream, one really interesting thing came out of it.  Many of our clients and home buyers wanted to renovate their homes and finally had the time to do it.  They were not alone!  2020/2021 were record year(s) for home renovations which also had an impact on property values.

Home renovation projects or even simple lipstick solutions can completely transform a space.  However this can be good or bad depending on the style.  Wondering what 2022 has in store?  Take a look and see what can help increase your property value!

Design trends for 2021-2022

  • Think Zen!  Marie Kondo may have started this wave but so many people latched on when they started to realize that less is so much more!  Turns out decluttering is not only good for the sale of  your house, but for your well being too! There is nothing like being stuck at home and realizing you do not use half the things you couldn’t bring yourself to donate the year before.

     Organization

  • This next trend feels like a happy throwback. “We’re seeing a subtle merge of retro, natural … elements in 2022 interior design trends” as per professional interior designer Lotte Brouwer*.  We are seeing natural wood tones coming back but not only on the floor.  They have transformed feature walls and brought back that warm homey feeling.  We have also seen natural wood make a takeover kitchen cabinets but with a modern twist! For the past few years, grey have been dominating the neutrals, however, the warm earthy neutrals have made their way back and I for one am excited!
    •  People are more drawn towards the warmer tones, such as “oatmeal”
    • The “Deluxe Colour of the Year” was revealed as Brave Ground, which is a warm brown with a hint of beige.

  • Modern living

  • One of the biggest changes is the much loved “Open Space” floor plan.  As much as I love this floor plan, when so many of us were stuck at home working, we quickly realized having no division of space made the noise flow!  We frantically searched for a private space where the kids couldn’t run in while we were in the middle of a zoom call.  With many people still working remotely, it has lead them to design their work spaces differently. Looks like home offices are here to stay and are now are a requirement when people are shopping for a property.

Look out for part 2 of Interior Design Trends to look out for in 2022!   😉
